Digital Nomad Visa

Working remotely from Spain starts with a clear plan for residence, work and tax.

We advise international professionals and their families on Spain’s Digital Nomad Visa and residence authorisation for international remote workers, bringing immigration, employment and tax considerations into one coordinated plan.

The route is designed for eligible nationals from outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland who work remotely for businesses outside Spain. The conditions differ for employees and self-employed professionals. The nature of the work, the overseas business, the contractual relationship and the evidence available all matter before an application is prepared.

Lullius assesses the proposed arrangement before the move, prepares the application and coordinates the obligations that follow. We also consider the implications for the employer or business abroad, so that permission to live in Spain sits alongside a workable position on tax, social security and ongoing compliance.

Eligibility and the right route

We review nationality, immigration status, qualifications or professional experience, the overseas business and the employment or professional relationship. We establish whether the international remote-working route fits the proposed activity and where the application should be made.

Key considerations

  • Visa and residence authorisation. A visa can be granted for up to one year. An eligible applicant legally in Spain may apply for a residence authorisation of up to three years. The appropriate route and actual period depend on the circumstances and the duration of the work arrangement.
  • The foreign business relationship matters. Employees may work only for companies outside Spain under this route. Self-employed professionals may undertake professional activity for businesses in Spain provided that activity does not exceed 20% of their total professional activity.
  • The evidence must support the arrangement. Qualifications or relevant professional experience, the business’s activity, the existing relationship, permission to work remotely and sufficient resources need to be documented consistently. We identify gaps before filing.
  • Immigration and taxation are separate questions. Holding a visa or residence authorisation does not by itself determine tax residence or access to the Beckham Law. Days in Spain, personal and economic connections and any applicable tax treaty require their own analysis.
  • Social security needs an early review. The applicable registration and coverage depend on the employment or professional arrangement and the relevant international rules. We check what can be evidenced in the individual case before relying on coverage outside Spain.
